Claude Desktop

Add to your Claude Desktop config (~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json on macOS):
Restart Claude Desktop. When you first ask about expenses, Claude will prompt you to authorize in your browser.

Cursor

In Cursor settings, add the MCP server:
  1. Open Settings → MCP Servers
  2. Add a new server with URL: https://api.bananasplit.net/mcp
  3. Name it “BananaSplit”

VS Code with Copilot

Add to your VS Code settings:

ChatGPT

ChatGPT supports MCP connectors. Add BananaSplit through:
  1. Settings → Connectors
  2. Add custom MCP server: https://api.bananasplit.net/mcp

Generic MCP clients

Any MCP-compatible client can connect using:

First connection

When your AI client first tries to access BananaSplit:
  1. A browser window opens automatically
  2. Sign in to BananaSplit if needed
  3. Review the permissions requested
  4. Click Approve to grant access
The connection persists across sessions. You can revoke access anytime from your BananaSplit account settings.

Troubleshooting

”Connection refused” or timeout

  • Check your internet connection
  • Verify the URL is exactly https://api.bananasplit.net/mcp
  • Restart your AI client

Browser doesn’t open for auth

  • Some clients need manual URL opening — check the client’s output for a login URL
  • Ensure your default browser is set correctly

”Unauthorized” after approving

  • The consent may have expired — try reconnecting
  • Check if you denied permissions accidentally
