# Always-on agents

> Let Grok Bot or ChatGPT dots manage expenses on a schedule.

Grok Bot and ChatGPT dots are always-on agents that can use BananaSplit automatically — adding expenses when bills arrive, or sending you balance summaries on a schedule.

## How it works

1. **Connect BananaSplit** to Grok or ChatGPT (see [setup](/mcp/setup))
2. **Create a bot or dot** and give it access to the BananaSplit connector
3. **Define triggers** — email arrival, calendar events, or time-based schedules

The agent runs in the background and takes action when triggered.

## Setup

### Grok Bot

1. Add BananaSplit at [grok.com/connectors](https://grok.com/connectors) (see [Grok setup](/mcp/setup#grok))
2. Create a new Grok Bot and give it access to the BananaSplit connector
3. Define what the bot should do and when

### ChatGPT dots

1. Add BananaSplit through Plugins with Developer mode enabled (see [ChatGPT setup](/mcp/setup#chatgpt))
2. Create a dot and give it access to the BananaSplit connector
3. Configure the dot's triggers and instructions

## Example jobs

**Add bills from email:**

> When the energy bill lands in my email, add it to Flat 3B and split it evenly.

The agent watches your email, extracts the amount and date from the bill, and creates the expense automatically.

**Weekly balance summary:**

> Every Sunday evening, send me where I stand across all my groups.

The agent checks your balances and sends you a summary — who owes you, who you owe, and in which groups.

**Track subscriptions:**

> When I get a receipt from Spotify, add it to my personal expenses.

## Limitations

* **No receipt images yet** — the agent adds expenses from email details (amount, date, description), but can't attach receipt photos
* **Writes aren't idempotent** — if the agent isn't sure whether an expense was created, it should check the group before retrying
